Description

We meet at Hakadal station on Friday evening (24. apr.) and then walk a few kilometres to Elvatnet where we spend the first night. On day two, we have a long day hiking via Mellomkollen to Kjulstjern in Lillomarka, where we spend another night. On day three, we hike a medium long distance via Linderud ski jump and end up at Årvoll/Stig. Please make sure to read the full description to make sure you are prepared for this hike, and contact the tour guide if you have any questions.

Where to meet and transportation

Public transportation:

We meet on Friday, April 24th at 18:45 at Hakadal stasjon. To get there from Oslo, you may take bus 390 in direction "Kongskog", arriving at 18:20, or R31 train direction "Jaren", arriving at 18:41. Please check these times, for example on ruter.no. On Sunday April 26th, we expect to reach the bus stop "Stig" at Årvoll in the early afternoon. This bus stop has very frequent departures towards the city centre also on Sundays.

For those who want to use a car: The start at Hakadal and the end in Årvoll are connected by bus 390 towards "Kongskog" from the stop "Brobekk", which is about 10 minutes walk from the bus stop "Stig". (Note that neither DNT nor the tour guides can take any kind responsibility for issues related to car parking.)

In case you need to drop out of the tour, this is possible at Snippen train station on Saturday afternoon.

Route

Friday:

We meet at Hakadal stasjon at 18:45. From the train station, we hike about 5 km to Elvatnet and set up camp there. Sunset will be at around 21:00.

Saturday:

Sunrise will be at around 05:30. After having breakfast and packing up, we hike about 21km. We start northwards around Elvatnet and then turn south towards Mellomkollen (view), Snippen (train station), Sinober (kindergarten, closed) to Kjulstjern in Lillomarka, where we set up camp again.

Sunday:

We hike about 11km, either via Slengfehøgda or through Bispedalen, then to Linderudseterhøgdene and the Linderudkollen ski jump. If the weather permits, we can go up and enjoy the view. We then walk down the stairs along the landing area. Finally, we continue to Trollvann before we descend towards Årvoll/Stig. We expect to reach the end of our tour in the early afternoon.

What to bring

Shelter:

You will need to bring a shelter for yourself the two nights we sleep in the forest: a hammock with tarp (hammock without tarp is not recommended), a tarp, or a tent. The easiest is probably to use a hammock with a tarp. In addition, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, pegs and whatever you need for your type of shelter. In the registration, please describe your experience, if any, with camping in Nordmarka. If you do not own a shelter, you may try to borrow from, for example, BUA.

Food:

Everybody needs to bring their own food. We recommend freeze-dried food for the evenings and "express havregrøt" (porridge) for breakfast, as these only require hot water to prepare. In addition, bring whatever you need and like for lunch and snacks and sweets. Please remember to also bring a garbage bag.

Cooking:

In the registration form, we have provided choices for "own cooker", "cooker to share", and "need cooker". For a shared cooker, you may not expect more than hot water, and it will obviously take more time to boil more water. The tour guides will take a stove and can boil extra water for food. Please remember that you need to take dishes and cutlery, a water bottle, and possibly a cup.

Clothing & Hygiene:

Bring clothing suitable for the weather predicted for the weekend. Bring warm clothing for the evening. (Campfires are forbidden from April 15 to September 15.) Bring an extra set of clothes for the night, and an extra pair of socks. Use solid hiking shoes unless you know what you are doing. Most of the tour will be on small trails which can be muddy, slippery, or uneven. It might be good to bring some blister care. Bring sufficient amounts of toilet paper and whatever you may need for you personal hygiene outdoors. Note that we will not be indoors and there are no washrooms. Please remember to bring sunscreen. Depending on the number of mosquitos, it might be useful to bring mosquito repellent.

Other Items:

  • a headlamp is required
  • a sitting pad, sunglasses and ear plugs (for the night) are recommended
  • if you need to recharge any electrical devices, you need to bring a powerbank as we will not have any access to electricity
  • see also DNT's packing list for summer hikes

Other information

  • dogs are not allowed on this tour
  • the lakes might tempt you to take a bath, if you are prepared (Note that bathing is not part of the DNT tour and is your own responsability.)
  • aim for a light backpack: if you need more than 50l, or if you have more than 12kg on your back, you probably have too much luggage
  • the route might be adapted depending on the weather, ground conditions, or participants' needs
